Sharing our knowledge on automated software testing

When is the right time to carry out software tests automatically – and when is it better to keep the testing manual? This will be one of the subjects when two Systematic staff members describe the company’s experience in this field at the ”Software testing – when it’s best 2010” conference in June.

4 May 2010

This conference will be focusing on how testing is done throughout the software development process, using both model-based testing and automated testing procedures. The event will also look into non-functional aspects of software testing, such as security and performance.

Using the title ”Know your limits in terms of automated testing”, Systematic test managers Gauri Varma Heise and Hans-Henrik Olesen will describe how Systematic maintains a balance between manual and automated tests, and how both types of test have a particular value for Systematic’s development procedures.

”Up until about five years ago, we only ran manual tests, scheduled for the culmination of each development cycle. However, as many people know, it’s best – and cheapest – to identify errors as early as possible in the process. That’s why we now also conduct automated testing in the course of the development cycle,” explains Hans-Henrik Olesen.

”As part of our presentation, we provide an overview of the processes that constitute the backdrop to our decision to introduce automated testing, and describe the lessons we learned en route to that decision.”

The Systematic presentation will be during the afternoon of the second day of the conference, which will be taking place on 7–8 June 2010 at the Danish Technological Institute (Teknologisk Institut) in Taastrup, Denmark.
