Not too much, not too little

Weeding out unnecessary functions from an IT project

When the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service (Landscentret, Dansk Kvæg) invited Systematic and other IT companies to tender for a cattle feed analysis system, Systematic didn't just submit a tender and a detailed description of the project configuration. Systematic also sent a covering letter that included a suggestion that it would in fact be possible to trim the entire scope of the project.

Systematic has the experience and ability to assess value in relation to costs. This is why our covering letter described ways of collaborating with the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service to reduce the overall bulk of the project. This could be done where it  covered more than was really needed, and also where the customer considered the price of project components too high in relation to their actual value when in use.

Danish Agricultural Advisory Service ended by selecting Systematic as supplier on the basis of a close dialogue, as well as Systematic's use of the Lean software development philosophy. And as a result the overall complexity of this software project was kept to a minimum.
