Making prescribing medication simpler

Prescribing and following up on patients’ medication are key tasks for physicians. The Medication module for Systematic Columna helps physicians with these tasks by providing them with best possible overview of what has been prescribed.

Clear overview of prescriptions

The prescription overview in the Columna Medication module lists all prescriptions clearly, sorted according to their ATC codes. The list can also sort prescriptions according to user-defined criteria – by type of prescription, for example.

Supports different types of prescription

Physicians can prescribe a number of different types of prescription, including regular, (PN, as needed), continual, schedules and alternating. Scheduled is, for example, used in treatment with Marcoumar, where the dose must be adjusted continually, in line with the patient’s INR values. The Columna Medication module supports continual adjustments of dosages, showing the correlation between the INR values and doses on a form. Equivalent forms can be created for other forms of therapy, such as insulin treatment correlated against blood sugar.

Simplifies issuing prescriptions

As many as possible of the fields are completed with standard values, to make it quicker and easier for physicians to write prescriptions.

The Medication module, which is closely integrated with the Apovision pharmacy system, also guides physicians towards prescribing drugs that are part of the pharmacy’s standard range for the department in question. The module can suggest synonymous drugs and give physicians access to online information, where they can read more about the drug.

Supports complex planning

The Medication module supports complex planning for each individual prescription, including switching dosage from day to day, or an escalation schedule.

User-compiled standard prescription packs

The department itself can compile standard prescription packs, i.e. for pain relief. Such a standard pack contains information about the products included, as well as dosages for the individual drugs. If the standard therapy includes escalation or de-escalation, this can be pre-defined.

When physicians then prescribe a standard prescription pack for a patient, the individual parts automatically become active at the stated relative times. This also simplifies prescription documentation and plays a part in standardising and assuring the quality of the therapy.
