Optimising processes with robot drug dispensers
The Medication module in Systematic Columna can be integrated with a robot drug dispenser that packs the prescribed medication in the precise dosages in unit-dose packs, on the basis of the prescription received electronically from the physician.
The pharmacy distributes the medication to the wards in two ways; either in the form of packs for storage in the medicine cabinet for subsequent use, or collected on rings for individual patients. A ring covers the medication for one patient for a complete period, such as from 7 pm to 9 am next morning.
Maximum security around medication
When the nurse administers the medication, he or she scans the bar code on the patient’s armband and the medication pack with a PDA on which the Medication module is installed. Columna then checks for compliance between the patient and the physician’s prescription with regard to drug, dose, time and method of administration. This helps ensure the best possible levels of safety in conjunction with medication.
This unique feature is an excellent example of how Columna provides concrete benefits for hospital practices.
