This course introduces the ADatP-3 message standard, the IRIS Definition System (IRIS DEF) Professional version, including the Professional Forms and practicalities of a managed ADatP-3 definitions database

  • Oracle concepts
  • IRIS DEF architecture
  • IRIS DEF 'Class' concepts
  • Defining a Message and its structure (ADatP-3 Part II)
  • Defining Linear and Columnar Sets (ADatP-3 Part III)
  • Defining FFIRNs and FUDs and Data Items (ADatP-3 Part IV)
  • Baseline management and Mission File production
  • Introduction to the IRIS DEF Professional Forms
  • Message customisation control
  • Administration of the system including loading, backing up and restoring data
  • Management of user accounts with IRIS DEF
  • Installation and configuration of the software
  • Using IRIS DEF to produce reports
  • Generation of XML Schemas and importing data items
  • Tasks and Configuration Management strategy within IRIS DEF Professional
  • Administration of a formatting team using IRIS DEF Professional
  • Course summary, questions, critique

Skills Learned

Upon completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Confidently define new formatted messages using IRIS DEF
  • Produce Mission Files for input into the IRIS Forms Editor containing National and/or NATO MTFs
  • Use the IRIS DEF Professional Forms to control a multi-user MTF formatting environment

  • IT literacy with basic keyboard skills
  • Delegates must have attended the IRIS DEF Desktop course
