Command & Control Information Exchange Data Model
This course introduces the Command & Control Information Exchange Data Model, (C2IEDM), developed by the Multilateral Interoperability Programme (MIP)
Course Overview
The course considers the model's relevance to the MIP community and wider C2 system integration and explains how it can be used for information exchange. Where necessary, the course can be tailored in content to meet specific requirements or student profiles.
Duration
3 days
Audience
Anyone, from end-user to systems integrator, requiring an understanding of C2IEDM. No prior experience of data modelling is required
Course Content
- Introduction to MIP and its relationship to the C2IEDM
- Principles of C2 integration and the role of C2IEDM in information exchange
- Introduction to database replication and Multilateral Interoperability Programme Data Exchange Mechanism (MIPDEM)
- Overview of relevant Entity Relationships (ER) modelling concepts
- Overview of the IDEF1X modelling notation
- High level overview of the model, looking at key functional areas
- Detailed examination of the constructs of the model including independent and dependent entities, legal values, business rules and information integrity
- Key differences between LC2IEDM, C2IEDM and JC3IEDM
- Use of the C2IEDM to represent various real-world scenarios
- Concept and use of Operational Information Groups (OIGs)
- Physical implementation issues
- Limitations of the C2IEDM
- Likely future trends
Skills Learned
Upon completion of the course, delegates will understand:
- The importance of the data model within the MIP community and to wider C2 systems integration
- Relevant IDEF1X notation and basic ER data modelling concepts
- How the data modelling constructs in C2IEDM are used to represent functional areas, values, relationships and business rules
- How information is held in the C2IEDM and how it can be exchanged
Course Prerequisites
- IT literacy with basic keyboard skills
- Basic awareness of military organisation and operations will be helpful
