This presents a new spectrum of challenges for command and communication infrastructures. Commanders need intel that gives them the best possible picture of what is happening at any given time, in order to make effective leadership decisions. This data has to be sourced from many different units – all using different equipment, ranging from satellites to the mark one eyeball.

At the same time, commands, reports and messages have to be passed back and forth throughout different organisational hierarchies in order to carry out any decisions made.
