Underpinning interoperability

Bridging the gaps

IRIS Information Mapping makes it possible to bridge gaps between otherwise seemingly incompatible data structures. It provides a cost-effective infrastructure for mapping inputs and outputs, to the considerable benefit of systems integrators developing new products as well as command structures that need to coordinate different systems and equipment.

This software product is designed specifically to develop and efficiently execute the data mappings required to make it possible to automatically pass structured information from one computer system or piece of equipment to another.

The graphical interface makes the initial mapping process easy and straightforward, thus saving on the time and manpower spent on manual coding.

Where it’s used

IRIS Information Mapping consists of two parts, IRIS Information Mapping Developer and IRIS Information Mapping Runtime.

IRIS Information Mapping Developer is normally used by systems integrators for linking C2 and messaging data streams. The information mappings thus established are deployed to and executed by the IRIS Information Mapping Runtime product, which is normally used in headquarters environments, either automated or manually by end user operators using a C2 or message handling system. IRIS Information Mapping is intended for use by all three services, as well as by joint staff.

Main capabilities

IRIS Information Mapping is normally used for:

  • integrating C2 databases with messaging data streams
  • configuring military message handling systems such as IRIS Organisational Messaging to interleave their contents with operational databases
  • translating between different versions of a particular messaging standard
  • translating between different messaging standards (e.g. ADatP-3 and USMTF)
  • translating between old-style slash-delimited MTF formats and the new XML-based MTF formats

Technical highlights
  • Decouples your system from changes and evolution in messaging and data management standards, helping future-proof your existing systems and resources.
  • Makes it possible to extend the service life of legacy systems and bespoke national set-ups, so they can still be used in current multinational operating environments.
  • Graphical interface makes the initial mapping process easy and straightforward, thus saving on time and manpower spent on manual coding.
  • The only mapping development tool with special built-in support for working with MTF standards. IRIS Information Mapping uses IRIS Forms for this capability.
  • Allows systems integrators to deal with a wide range of different message text formats (including ADatP-3, USMTF and OTHT-GOLD), information in XML form and the contents of databases (whether MIP-compliant or in proprietary formats).
  • Numerous standardised mapping structures are available off-the-shelf from Systematic and its partners, ready to use.
  • Information mappings are compiled in highly efficient .NET or Java code, for maximum performance and compatibility with widely used software development standards.
  • Easy to integrate with the SitaWare suite of C2 software products, for maximum efficiency in data management.
