ColumnaColumna is Systematic’s electronic patient record (EPR) system. However, it is much more than that because Columna is a complete clinical workplace that not only contains an interdisciplinary patient record to be shared by all clinical staff, but also supports any tasks crosswise of patients. In the development of Columna Systematic has focused on the following: Patient safety - Columna is the clinician’s most essential source of patient information. Hence Columna contributes to ensure that the patients get the right treatment. Delays and medical errors can be prevented by supporting decisions and processes using electronic standard pathways and task lists. Overview - It is essential for the clinician to get an overview, which Columna supports by creating a number of lists related to different work situations. Single log-on - Columna integrates the modules with paraclinical systems, such as laboratory system, and the clinician needs only log-in on one system to view all data related to a patient. One interdisciplinary record - Columna is an interdisciplinary and pathway oriented record system. There is only one record for each patient, and hence all healthcare professionals and departments read and write in the same journal. Data is only entered once and then available when necessary. Communication across sectors - Referrals, discharge summaries, prescriptions etc. are available electronically in Columna to ensure cooperation across sectors regarding a patient. User-friendliness - It is essential that EPR is efficient and user-friendly. Therefore Columna has been developed in close cooperation with doctors and nurses and on the basis of standard guidelines for graphical user interfaces. Monitoring of quality - Columna supports ongoing follow up on the quality and efficiency of the healthcare services with electronic clinical pathways, task lists and structured data. Systematic Columna consists of specialised clinical modules that are closely integrated into the clinical workplace:
