Jouni’s thoughts on…

...talent development

Talent development is a lifeline for Systematic.

The industry Systematic operates in requires substantial technical knowledge in order to stay competitive. Systematic acknowledges this need and consequently puts a lot of resources into developing the skills of employees.

In my view, this focus is a win-win situation. It doesn’t just increase the company’s overall intellectual value, but I also think it plays a big part for the job satisfactory among employees. It is definitely something I value greatly. It’s like a loop. The company invest in the employees and as a result the employees make better results.

...working in a project- and team-oriented company

I appreciate the teamwork orientation in Systematic as this broadens my thinking.

Teamwork is essential for the process and outcome of our projects in Systematic. Each member in a cross-functional team has different capabilities and talents that bring value to the projects. When I spar with my teammates and colleagues, I suddenly come up with new ideas I would never have thought about myself. This highly affects the quality of our work.

...working in a company that focuses on being People centric

This has a great impact on my job satisfaction!

At Systematic, we are offered participation in a great number of events and activities that makes it possible for us to meet colleagues in more informal situations.

That Systematic is people centric also shows in the open and welcoming attitude of everyone; it’s incarnated in the company. You really feel like you’re met as an individual and not just another employee. This is something I picked up on from the very start. I quickly felt welcome in the company. Not just by my Finnish colleagues, but by my colleagues from our offices located in other countries as well.

...the greatest thing about my job

Well, it’s really hard to name one great thing, but if I have to pick one, it must be the room for freedom and flexibility.

In Systematic, one of our values is Freedom with responsibility, which I find to be a great philosophy. When you have the freedom to plan your own work day and tasks as we do, I believe you automatically feel responsible. It makes you feel important and indispensable when you are given trust and responsibility. I find it a very good strategy that I believe in the end makes you work harder and achieve a better result.

...work-life balance

I find the balance between work and life to be very reasonable at Systematic.

It’s of course individual how you define an optimum work-life balance, but I definitely feel my needs are met at Systematic. The amount of work of course varies; sometimes projects require working overtime, but then other periods allow for more sparetime and time with your family. In the end, it adds up.

Once I became an employee here, it didn’t take long before I settled in and felt a balance in my everyday life.

...a typical day at work

A typical day for me starts out with a meeting with my colleagues at the Finnish office where we catch up on everyone’s tasks. This is of course important for work–related reasons, but it also strengthens the cooperation and solidarity between us that we know what everyone’s is doing. What happens the rest of the day varies from day to day, but it usually revolves around planning, communicating with colleagues and customers and conducting operational analysis to support our software development.

To complete my tasks, sparing with my colleagues is very important. Therefore, I really appreciate that we have such open communication in Systematic. Apart from the general open attitude of everyone, this is also reflected in our surroundings; the doors to our offices are open and windows are see-through, which brings about a very welcoming and informal atmosphere.
